霧化器廣泛的被應用在各個領域,其應用不僅限於醫療方面的治療呼吸系統、居家用的加濕器和精油芳香器等。事實上它的應用涵蓋工業製造、環保節能和舞臺效果等等,在休閒娛樂方面,近年來興起的電子煙,也是霧化器應用的領域。霧化器是這些裝置裡最重要的核心模組,在醫療方面的應用已是相當的成熟。藥物經霧化噴射到靶器官,即透過霧化器將藥液霧化成可被人體吸收的小顆粒 (稱為氣溶膠),不同形式的霧化器將藥液霧化成大小不同顆粒,不同直徑的小顆粒分別進入咽喉、上呼吸道、下呼吸道及肺泡,達到迅速治療的效果。至於霧化器在其他領域的應用如電子煙,則是以電熱的方式霧化煙油成小顆粒吸入。與醫療器具以療效功能不同的是,電子煙的使用講
