Gandhian Economics and the Rethinking of Economic Theory and Policies: A Contribution to a Non-violent Perspective on Economics

為了解決Of course not的問題,作者Burlando, Roberto 這樣論述:

The collapse of the current system has been caused by the progressive degeneration of many of our democratic institutions and ideals and only a regeneration of them can change the course of events. But this is not an easy task and a first necessary step in this direction is a change in the approach

and values that shape mainstream thinking in economics. Gandhian economics offers a more humanistic approach to economics which points to broader and higher values. Its reflections on the true aims of life and on the basic principles of proper living in family and society can act as a catalyst and c

ontribute to the building of an alternative economics.Gandhian economics requires methodological and ethical perspectives that go well beyond the still prevelant forms of reductionism and this book stresses the links between Gandhian economics and both the systemic approach and the rebuttal of ethic

al individualism in favour of a combination of deontological and virtue approaches. The book also examines alternative economic and social policies informed by the classical Gandhian distinction between different functions of goods and the different role of their markets. These policy discussions fo

cus in particular on the real (as opposed to induced) needs of people, particularly families and local communities, and on their technological and consumption choices. This book also considers the intersections between Gandhian economics and the works of Amartya Sen, Martha Nussbaum, Elinor Ostrom a

nd others to demonstrate the contribution that Gandhian economics has made, and can continue to make, to the psychology of economics, economics of happiness and well-being, sustainability economics, and more. Roberto Burlando is Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University

of Torino.

Panic as Man Burns Crumpets: The Vanishing World of the Local Journalist

為了解決Of course not的問題,作者Lytollis, Roger 這樣論述:

WINNER OF THE LAKELAND BOOK OF THE YEAR AWARD 2022’For those who know about provincial newspapers, this will be a classic and a gem. Those who don’t know will envy what they have missed’ MELVYN BRAGG ’Brisk and entertaining. A very readable love letter to a disappearing world, told with verve and

CRAVEN, author of the award-winning The Puppet Show’Local journalism has never seemed more exotic than in this part-memoir, part-ode to that disappearing art,

which is as funny as it is endearing . . . Brilliantly written, frequently laugh-out-loud funny, but

also reflective, candid, poignant and passionate about the importance of journalism. Superb’CHRIS MASON, BBC political correspondent/presenter of Radio 4’s Any Questions’Many books written by journalists have come across my desk over the course of my time as publisher of Hold the Front Page, but I

would say without any hesitation that this one is the best. Not only is it the funniest, and the best-written, it is also the most honest in terms of what it reveals about its author, and more importantly about our craft’PAUL LINFORD, Hold the Front PageYou dreamed of being a journalist and the drea

m has come true. You love working for your local paper . . . although not everything is as you imagined. You embarrass yourself with a range of celebrities, from John Hurt to Jordan. Your best story is ’The Man With the Pigeon Tattoo’. A former colleague interviews President Trump. You urinate in th

And being photographed naked is only the second most humiliating thing to happen one infamous afternoon. There are serious stories, such as a mass shooting, a devastating flo

Your carefully crafted features are read by fewer people than a story about fancy dress for dogs. Panic as Man Burns Crumpets is the inside story of local newspaper
