ZZR1200とZX-12Rの後継となる車種である。最強の名前を取ったZZR1100やZX-12Rと同様、世界最速の市販車を目指して開発された。ZX-12Rが20世紀最高のスーパースポーツを名乗って登場してきたのに対し、ABS仕様車もあることなどから、日本市場ではスズキ・GSX1300Rハヤブサなどと共にメガスポーツに分類される。北米市場ではスーパースポーツに分類される。

カワサキ・ZZR1400（ゼットゼットアールせんよんひゃく）とは、川崎重工業が2006年より製造、販売している輸出市場向け4ストローク1352ccのZZRシリーズの大型自動二輪車（オートバイ）である。尚、北米仕様はZX-14とネーミングされている。
1352cc水冷並列4気筒エンジンを新開発のモノコックフレームに搭載。2008年式にて初のモデルチェンジが行われユーロ3規制をクリア。最高出力も北米・ヨーロッパ仕様では190ps→193psへ、現在逆輸入され日本で主に流通しているマレーシア仕様も180ps→190psへパワーアップが成された。また、低回転ではアクセル開度に対するレスポンスが鈍いエンジン出力特性となっていたが、2008 年式ではセッティングが見直されている。すべて触媒付き。なお、2008年式車両のラムエア加圧時の出力203psは、現在市販されているオートバイの中で最も高い出力である。
